Hawzah News Agency- The United States has exposed the "true nature" of its power after the deliberate targeting of civilian water infrastructure in Sirik, southern Iran, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said.
In a post on X, Baghaei asserted that the targeting of civilian water facilities strips away the rhetorical framework of human rights, international order, and moral responsibility often associated with Western policy discourse.
Such actions, he said, demonstrate a stark contradiction between stated principles and operational conduct, particularly when essential civilian infrastructure is affected.
“The great error of nearly all studies of war… has been to consider war as an episode in foreign politics, when it is especially an act of interior politics, and the most atrocious act of all,” Baghaei said, invoking the words of a French philosopher, before linking the concept to the political meaning of targeting civilian utilities.
In his remarks, Baghaei also invoked literary references, stating that empires do not collapse solely through military defeat but through the erosion of credibility between rhetoric and reality.
The attack on water reservoirs in Sirik is the latest in a series of US strikes on Iranian civilian infrastructure during the US-Israeli war on Iran. Tehran has consistently maintained that such attacks constitute war crimes under international law, as they deliberately target facilities essential for the survival of civilian populations.
The destruction of water infrastructure in Sirik has left thousands of residents without access to clean drinking water, further exacerbating the humanitarian impact of the US-led war on Iranian civilians.
